The Miraculous Staircase

10-15 minutesPhotograph from the base

This 20-foot tall helix staircase features two complete 360-degree turns without a central support column. An unknown carpenter built the 33 steps using only wooden pegs and an unidentified type of spruce. You cannot walk up the stairs. Take photos from the base to capture the full double-helix structure.

The Choir Loft

5 minutesObserve the top alignment

The staircase rises exactly 20 feet to reach this upper level above the main floor. The original builders commissioned the stairs specifically to give choir members access to this space. Look closely at the top step. It aligns perfectly with the loft floor without resting on a main support beam.
